Does my child have to be potty trained before entering the school?
No
What is the school's cancellation policy?
There is a $100 non-refundable fee due upon registration. Any post dated monthly cheques for tuition will be returned to the family for month's unattended.
What if I cancel before school starts? Are my fees refundable?
No... the $100 fee is not refundable at any time.
Does SCNS offer a before or after school program?
The school does not have a program set up for such a service. However, Sunnylea does have a daycare facility that is located across the hall from the nursery school that does offer such programs.
Is there a discount for multiple siblings attending the school within the same year?
No. A discount is not available for families with multiple children attending in the same year. Further, because the school is a co-op, members with multiple siblings (including twins/triplets) may be asked to assume more than one committee role during the year.
Is there a registration fee?
There is a $100 registration fee that is non-refundable.
Besides tuition and registration fees, are there any additional fees of which I should be aware?
There is a deposit cheque required at the beginning of the year. When you join, you will receive a binder containing detailed information about the school. The binder is expected to be returned at the end of your year. If the binder is returned and the toy wash is completed by a designated person from your family, the cheque is not cashed.
How can tuition fees be paid out?
Tuition fees are paid by 12 monthly post dated cheques made out to the school upon registration. Or, you may chose to pay the school up front for the year's tuition.
How often do I have to assist as a duty day parent?
The program requires that each class have the two qualified teachers and one duty day parent. In the three year old class, there are 16 children and the class runs three times a week. Therefore, each parent has to assist once every 16 classes (roughly every fifth week). However, in the two year old class there are only 10 children and the class run twice a week. Therefore, the parents must assist once very 10 classes (which is roughly every fifth week).
What are the committees that I can join?
There are several committees/jobs that you can participate in: Communications (year book, website, etc), Treasurer, Secretary, Registration, Program, Special Events, Social and Class Equipment.
Is there a non-duty day or a non-committee option?
No. All families are required to participate in a committee and participate in the classroom as a duty parent. Participating in the co-operative duties like duty day and a committee, provides a great sense of fulfillment and enjoyment while being a part of your child's first learning experience.
